Sole Searching

Does the name Blake Mycoskie mean anything to you? If not, get to know that name and get to know his cause. Blake is in search of soles. That’s right; he is looking for bare feet that need a pair of shoes. Blake is the owner of Toms Shoes and he is the owner of the idea that is putting shoes on hundreds of thousands of people. As a matter of fact, just this past Tuesday he gave away the one millionth pair of shoes to someone in Argentina.

Here is how it works; when someone buys a pair of Toms Shoes, Toms Shoes gives a pair of shoes away to someone in the world that does not have a pair of shoes. You might be asking why shoes? Their website gives the following reasons:
Many children in developing countries grow up barefoot. Whether at play, doing chores or going to school, these children are at risk:
•A leading cause of disease in developing countries is soil-transmitted diseases, which can penetrate the skin through bare feet. Wearing shoes can help prevent these diseases, and the long-term physical and cognitive harm they cause.
•Wearing shoes also prevents feet from getting cuts and sores. Not only are these injuries painful, they also are dangerous when wounds become infected.
•Many times children can't attend school barefoot because shoes are a required part of their uniform. If they don't have shoes, they don't go to school. If they don't receive an education, they don't have the opportunity to realize their potential.
It is really quite a story about a man with a vision to make a difference in the world one sole at a time (well actually two soles at a time) and he developed a plan to make his dream some true. The question for you and me is this; do you have a plan to make a difference in the life of anyone? Forget about the hundreds and thousands for a moment. Do you have a plan to improve the life situation for any one person in this community or world? You see if you don’t have a plan to do something small, but yet meaningful you will never be able to make a difference to larger numbers of people. I have known people that have said, “if I had a million dollars I would give half of it to ….” And they would name some deserving cause. Well here is the thing, if you won’t give half of what you have now to that cause then why would God bless you with a million dollars?
People who truly make a difference in this world start out by making a difference in small meaningful ways and as they are blessed they increase the size of their gift to the world. So, what is your dream for making a difference? Make your plan and start making your dreams come true today.
Over 2000 years ago Jesus came to this earth to do some soul searching of his own and his soul searching has made all the difference in the world. It is one thing to go through life without shoes it is an entirely different thing to go through life without hope. Jesus came to give life and hope to all people of the world. It does not matter if you have no shoes, a pair of Toms Shoes or a pair of Stuart Weitman designer shoes without Jesus the path to heaven is impossible to walk. So get in step, do some soul searching of your own and follow Jesus.
Love God. Go Love Others.
