Just the other day the leadership team of the church had an
opportunity to use the Rock Creek Event Center for our monthly meeting. I am sure that many of you have been out
there, but for those who have not been there let me share with you the setting
for our meeting. As I walked around the
event center to the back porch my eyes were blessed with an amazing view. Looking off to the west across the rolling
hill down to the two or three acre fish pond I was able to witness a beautiful
sunset. The breeze was out of the north
and it was about as nice of a spring evening as you can have in North
Texas.
During our meeting we were given the opportunity to spend
some time in solitude with God. Our
instructions were to go anywhere on the property that we wanted to go, but to
be back on the back porch in thirty minutes.
Just off the back porch of the Event Center is a sidewalk that leads to
a nice concrete area built for outdoor weddings. For some reason I headed straight for the
sidewalk and walked down to the outdoor wedding area. It was a nice safe walk with no potholes, no
stickers, no weeds, no chiggers, and it went to a nice safe place to stand or
sit and to pray. As I arrived to the
wedding area I thought to myself, “Why did I choose the safe path which led to
the safe concrete slap?” I was standing
in the middle of an amazing place out in the country with plenty of beauty to
enjoy and experience and I chose a concrete side walk and a concrete pad for my
place of solitude. I did not stay there
long.
I got off the safe path and discovered so much more that God
had to offer me that evening. The
rolling hills, the pond and trees with the sun setting off in the
distance. The sounds of nature all
around me and most of all the voice of God telling me that he has so much more
for me to experience in life.
Could it be my friends that most of us choose the safe path
and the safe destination too often in life and in so doing we rob ourselves of
the opportunity to experience everything God has planned for you and I to
experience. Could it be that we
experience God in a very safe way as well.
We do the same things in the same ways day in and day out, Sunday after
Sunday, and life and church are just too ….. safe and predictable.
This is a call to all those who are like me to get off the
sidewalk and get out there and allow yourself to experience all that God has
planned for your life and your spiritual journey. I can only guarantee this –
you will experience God in a much different way than ever before and you will
discover that God has so much more to offer you.
Go ahead… take that first step.
Love
God. Go Love Others.
